It is Sunday, 18 January 2009. I ate toast for breakfast. I put Benecol low fat spread on it. Benecol is from Finland and it contains plant stanols that are proven to lower cholesterol. I have been using it on and off for several years and writing this now it has just struck me that the name may be a play on the ideas of ‘bene’ as in beneficial, and col as in cholesterol. Which goes to prove that at the conscious level, much advertising is wasted on me. I don’t even like the word Benecol. And to top off my toast I spread or splodged on Thick Cut mature marmalade. And I had two large mugs of tea. Black tea from India, with milk. I am now sated in my desire to post here. Until the next time. 1 replyTo comment on a post, Log in or Create an account |

Benecol could also come from:
“ben”, a short version of the word “been”
“e”, a colloquialism for “a”
“col”, medial abbreviation for “colon”
that would mean that the products from Benecol may have previously been a colon or found in a colon. that’s somehow what the name reminds me of.
